About Lavr Kornilov

Kornilov was a general in the Russian Imperial Army, which made Tsar Nicholas II his boss.

After the February Revolution of 1917, Kornilov was working for the Provisional Government.

After the October Revolution of 1917, Kornilov served in the  White Army.

 



The Kornilov Affair - The Kornilov Revolt

At the end of August 1917, General Kornilov attempted a military coup d'état against the Provisional Government. He sent his troops direction Petrograd (
St. Petersburg). On August 27, 1917, Kerensky sends message that he is fired and orders Kornilov to abort immediately and to come to Petrograd to explain himself in person.

The coup failed. Kornilov didn't come to Petrograd but went to Bykhov instead and surrendered there.

1904 - 1905

 

Russo-Japanese War. Kornilov serves as intelligence officer.

     

1907 - 1911

 

Military attaché in Beijing.

     

1914

 

Becomes a divisional commander during  WWI.

     

March 1915

 

Is captured by the Austrians at Przemysl

     

1916

 

Escapes from the Austrians. Back to duties as a military commander at home.

     

February 1917

 

The Provisional Government put Kornilov in charge of the Petrograd ( St. Petersburg) district.

     

? 1917

 

Kornilov resigns Petrograd post and returns to the  WWI front.

     

June 1917

 

The Russians launch an offensive against the Germans in Galicia and abort. Kornilov is part of that Russian army.

     

August 1, 1917

Kerensky appoints Kornilov commander in chief

     

End of August 1917

 

The Kornilov Revolt

     

September 1, 1917

 

Kornilov surrenders and is imprisoned at Bykhov, later escapes.

     

November Revolution 1917

 

After the November Revolution, Kornilov becomes a commander of the White Army.

     

April 13, 1918

 

Death at a battle for Ekaterinodar, Russia, while fighting the Red Army.
