SAINT PETERSBURG

Saint Petersburg
was founded in 1703 by Peter the Great.

It was the capital of the Russian Empire from 1712 - 1918. In March 1918, Moscow became the capital of the USSR.

The same city was renamed Petrograd from 1914 - 1924 and again renamed Leningrad from 1924 - 1991. Today, we're back to Saint Petersburg.

Major events took place in Saint Petersburg, e.g. the Russian Revolution of 1917
