RUSSO-JAPANESE WAR
1904 - 1905


Both countries, Russia and Japan, were eager to dominate Korea and Manchuria. The Russo-Japanese War was won by Japan.

This war overlapped with the Russian Revolution of 1905.

 

What Started the Russo-Japanese War?

On February 8, 1904, the Japanese attacked Port Arthur and thus started the war.

Although Japan fired the first shot, this war was equally desired by Russia.

What Ended the Russo-Japanese War?

A peace treaty was signed on September 5, 1905 (August 23, 1905 - Old Style), the Treaty of Portsmouth.
