THE BILL OF RIGHTS (UNITED STATES)
DECEMBER 15, 1791
 

In the United States, the Bill of Rights describes the first ten amendments to the U.S. Constitution. Originally, twelve amendments were suggested but only ten were ratified.

BACKGROUND

The U.S. Bill of Rights was influenced by the Magna Carta, by the British Bill of Rights and by Virginia's Declaration of Rights. Also, the men who composed it had just gone through the painful process to free themselves from the British. Naturally, these experiences influenced the constitutional laws of the U.S. as well.
