Treaty of Ciudad Juárez

The Treaty of Ciudad Juárez is an important document of the Mexican Revolution.

On Sunday, May 21, 1911, at 10 pm, Francisco Madero put his signature on this document.

Ciudad Juárez is a city in northern Mexico, in the state of Chihuahua, at the border to the US, right across from El Paso, Texas. The city is named after Benito Juárez.

The Treaty of Ciudad Juárez stipulated that

  • President Diaz must resign by the end of May 1911
     

  • The interim president will be Francisco León de la Barra
     

  • De la Barra is the man in charge and responsible for holding free presidential elections
     

  • A general amnesty was granted for all former revolutionaries
