MARIA THERESA, 1717 - 1780
MARIA THERESA
1717 - 1780

Maria's mother was Elizabeth of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel. Her father was Charles VI.

Thanks to her father's Pragmatic Sanction, she inherited quite a bit. But also thanks to the same document, the War of the Austrian Succession broke out.

In 1740, Maria became Archduchess of Austria and queen of Hungary and Bohemia.

In 1736, she married Francis I, who reigned as Holy Roman emperor 1745 - 1765, and whom she loved dearly. Her son, Joseph II, was Holy Roman emperor 1765 until 1790.
