1787 - 1791
In the Russo-Turkish War of 1787-1791, Austria was Russia's
ally. Hence, it was also an
Austro-Turkish War.
On October 10, 1787, Russia defeated the Turks in the
Battle
of Kinburn.
Siege of Chocim, also
spelled Khotin or Chotin, today's Khotyn in the Ukraine. The
siege lasted three months, from July 2 until September 19,
1788, after which the city fell.
On July 30, 1789, Russia defeated the Turks in the
Battle of Focsani.
On September
22, 1789, Russia defeated the Turks at the
Battle of Martinesti.
Shortly after, the Russians took the
fortress at Bender.
On October 9, 1789, Austrian general
Gideon Ernest von Laudon takes
Belgrade.
One of the Austrian commanders in this war was
Frederick Josias of Saxe-Coburg.
One of the Russian commanders was Aleksandr
Suvorov.
