The Battle of Valmy was part of the French Revolutionary Wars. The battle is also called the Cannonade of Valmy.


Who fought IN THE BATTLE OF VALMY?

The French fought an invading Prussian army. The French won and the Prussians withdrew.

Charles William Ferdinand of Brunswick, who was Frederick II the Great's nephew, fought on the Prussian side.

François-Christophe Kellermann, who was the Duc De Valmy, fought as a general for the French.

Famous German poet Johann Wolfgang von Goethe also accompanied the Prussian army.


What WAS THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE BATTLE OF VALMY?
The Battle of Valmy is important in French history. It was after this battle that the country assumed the title of republic.
