LOUIS IX
1214 - 1270

 

A popular man, Louis was declared a Saint. He ruled as king of France from 1226 - 1270.


LOUIS' FAMILY
Louis father was King Louis VIII. Louis mother was Blanche of Castile. In 1234, Louis married Margaret, daughter of the count of Provence.


LOUIS' LIFE
Upon the death of his father, Louis became king when he was only 12 years old. His mother ruled for him until 1234 and she had to shoo away many characters who wanted to take advantage of the situation and sit on the throne themselves.

In 1248, Louis piloted the Seventh Crusade.

In 1259, Louis concluded the Treaty of Paris with English Henry III, which resolved territorial issues.

In 1270, Louis ready for the Eighth Crusade, but died very early in the campaign.

Louis' son, Philip III, became his successor.
