BATTLE OF TOURS
OCTOBER 732

The Battle of Tours was also called the Battle of Poitiers (not to be mixed up with the Battle of Poitiers in 1356).

Nobody knows the exact battle location, but the Battle of Tours was fought somewhere between Tours and Poitiers.

What went on at the time?

The Saracens aka the Muslims were on the roll. See map:

The Muslim forces swept from Spain northward. Eudes, the duke of Aquitaine, asked Charles Martel for military support.

Charles agreed to the proposal and won the Battle of Tours. 'Abd-ar-Rahman, or Abderrahman, the well respected leader of the Saracens, was killed in the process. The Arabs withdrew back south and abandoned their plans of further invasion.

Hence, the Battle of Tours is a big deal in history, because it marked the end of Arab conquest and Islamization in Western Europe.
