BATTLE OF MALPLAQUET
SEPTEMBER 11, 1709


The Battle of Malplaquet was part of the War of the Spanish Succession.

Malplaquet is a town in today's France along the Belgian border.

Who fought?

The British, Dutch, and Austrians with 100,000 troops, led by John Churchill, who was the duke of Marlborough and Prince Eugene of Savoy vs. the French with 90,000 troops, led by Claude Louis Hector, who was the duc de Villars.

The Allies won but at a high price.

The French lost 12,000 men, the Allies lost about 22,000 men.
