David Eugene Thompson was a Republican and a railway manager. He was the American Ambassador to Mexico, which brought him face to face with Mexican President Porfirio Diaz.

David's father was John H. Thompson. David's mother was Rhoda Thompson nee Bennett.

On January 18, 1892, David E. Thompson married Jeannette Miller and on June 9, 1921, he did the same thing to Gladys Dana Garber.

1902 - 1905 U.S. Minister to Brazil
1905 U.S. Ambassador to Brazil
January 24, 1906 - Appointment as ambassador to Mexico
March 8, 1906 - First day on the job as ambassador
December 1, 1909 - Resigns as ambassador
1909 - Pan-American Railway
1942 - Death
