Louisiana Purchase 1803
The purchase of the Louisiana
Territory by means of the Louisiana Treaty took place on
April 30, 1803.
Thomas Jefferson
was president at the time.
The
United States bought the land from the French, who sold it for less
than 3 cents per acre. Talk about a good deal.
The Louisiana Purchase expanded the
territory of the United States by 828,000 square miles.
Although the purchase was signed on May
2, 1803, it was backdated to April 30.

States Expansion maps.
