BATTLE OF AUSTERLITZ
DECEMBER 2, 1805


Austerlitz is located in Moravia, in today's Czech Republic.

The Battle of Austerlitz,  was part of the War of the Third Coalition, which in turn was a chapter in the Napoleonic Wars.

The Battle of Austerlitz is also called the Battle of The Three Emperors. And the three emperors were:

Napoleon I Bonaparte

Francis II
Holy Roman Empire
(As Francis I, he was also emperor of Austria.)

Alexander I
Team Russia



Who won the battle of Austerlitz?

Napoleon was the man of the day. His French troops, aided by Bavarian soldiers, defeated the allied troops from Russia and Austria.

How many people fought?

The map below, taken from a 1905 history atlas, claims the strength of the engaging armies were: 90,000 French troops and 80,000 Allied troops (Russian army and Austrian army)

More recent sources say it were 68,000 French troops and 90,000 Allied troops.

Allied losses: 15,000 men killed and wounded; 11,000 men captured

French losses: 9,000 men.

After this battle, on December 26, 1805, Napoleon made Austria sign the Treaty of Pressburg.
