Timur is also spelled Timour. The English called Timur Tamerlane. His nickname was Timur Leng, which means Timur the Lame.

Timur insisted he was a descendant of Genghis Khan. He certainly acted the part.

In 1395, Timur invaded the territory of the Golden Horde.
