ROSA PARKS
1913 - 2005

Rosa Parks, née Rosa Louise McCauley, became an African American civil rights activist.

In 1955, Rosa decided to sit down riding the bus. By law she had to give up her seat for a white man. But she remained where she was, got arrested and started a stir.

Martin Luther King, Jr. called for a boycott of the bus company. A year later, the U.S. Supreme Court decided the law in question was unconstitutional.
