MATILDA OF CANOSSA
1046 - 1115

Matilda had a castle at Canossa, which is a village in the regione of Emilia-Romagna, north-central Italy.

Matilda was also called Matilda the Great Countess, or Matilda, countess of Tuscany.

Why should you care?

Because it was in her living room that Holy Roman emperor Henry IV and Pope Gregory VII met. The year? 1077.
