CLEMENT III
? - 1191

Clement's real name was Paolo Scolari and he was Roman by birth.

Clement was pope from 1187 until 1191. Before becoming pope, Paolo was cardinal-bishop of Palestrina.

Palestrina is located here (see red star):

PALESTRINA, ITALY

It was October 1187 when Saladin and his Muslims re-captured Jerusalem. In December 1187, Paolo was made pope. As Pope Clement III, he rallied everybody and their dog to fight the Third Crusade, which was basically for the birds.

In 1188, Clement switched the status of the Scottish Church from being under the jurisdiction of the English See of York to being directly subject to Rome.
