LOMBARD LEAGUE
1167 - 1183

To protect themselves from Holy Roman Emperor Frederick I Barbarossa, some communes in Lombardy, northern Italy, came together and established the Lombard League. The year? 1167.

The League fought and defeated the emperor at the Battle of Legnano in 1176. This led to the Peace of Constance in 1183.
