PEASANTS' WAR
1524 - 1526

The Peasants' War was a revolt of German peasants who were fighting German nobles because they were unhappy with their economic and social situation.

The uprising broke out at Stuhlingen and spread to cities all over Franconia, Swabia, and Thuringia, later also Austria.

Some unhappy nobles joined the peasants' site, e.g. Gotz von Berlichingen.

Huldreich Zwingli and Thomas Munzer supported the revolt, Martin Luther was against it.

Approx 100,000 peasants lost their lives.
