FRANCO-SPANISH WAR
1635-1659
The Franco-Spanish
War started in 1635, which put it right in the middle of the
Thirty Years' War.
On the French side, the great Henri de La Tour d'Auvergne, the
viscount de
Turenne, found an opportunity to show his brilliance. He
defeated the Spanish at the Battle of the Dunes on June 14,
1658, which was fought at Dunkirk, today's France.
The
Treaty of the Pyrenees in 1659 ended this war.
