BAY OF PIGS INVASION
APRIL 17, 1961

The US government under President John F. Kennedy, armed 1,500 Cuban exiles and sent them back to Cuba to fight Fidel Castro.

On April 15, 1961, they executed some air raids.

On April 17, 1961, they landed in various spots along Cuba's coast, but mainly at the Bahía de los Cochinos, or the Bay of Pigs.

By April 19, 1961, Fidel Castro had killed 300 men and locked up the rest because there was big money in it. In exchange for a hefty ransom, the prisoners were returned to the US over the next four years.
