The Battle of Leuctra was fought on the Plain of Leuctra, southern Boeotia.

The Battle of Leuctra was the decisive battle in the Boeotian-Spartan War, which was fought 379-371 BC.

In this war, Athens allied with Boeotia.

 

WHO FOUGHT?
The Boeotians, led by Epaminondas vs. the Spartans, led by their king, Cleombrotus.


WHO WON?
The Boeotians won the battle of Leuctra.


HOW MANY WERE KILLED?
Xenophon says that about 1,000 Spartans were killed in this battle. Spartan King Cleombrotus was one of them.
