PLATO 428 - 347 BC
PLATO
428 - 347 BC

Plato was a Greek philosopher and the founder of his Academy, the first university, if you will.

Socrates was Plato's teacher. Aristotle was Plato's pupil.

Plato's Family
Plato's father was Ariston. His mother was Perictione.

Plato's Works
In Republic, Plato paints a radical communist picture of the ideal state. Not only material possessions should be commonly owned but also spouses and offspring.

See more under Communism.

Plato also wrote Apology, which was Socrates' defense speech at his trial in 399 BC.

Xenophon wrote on the same matter. Go here for Xenophon's Apology of Socrates.
