DIADOCHI

When Alexander the Great died in 323 BC, he left a huge empire. The guys who took over after Alex was gone are also called the diadochi.

Diadochus is singular, diadochi plural. Originally Greek, the word means successor. Some people also spell it diodochoi or diadochoi. Take your pick.

The main Diadochi were

Antigonus (Asia Minor)

Seleucus (Babylon)

Cassander (Macedonia)

Lysimachus (Thrace)

Ptolemy I (Egypt)

Antigonus was removed from the list by means of the Battle of Ipsus in 301.
