Cuban Missile Crisis - October 1962
CUBAN MISSILE CRISIS
OCTOBER 1962

The Cuban Missile Crisis scared the heck out of the entire world because global nuclear war was in the air.

WHAT HAPPENED?
Cuban head of state Fidel Castro did his own political thing since quite a while. His latest idea was to park Soviet nuclear weapons on his island that could target major US cities.

JFK decided to stop fresh supplies delivered to Fidel by Soviet ships and had his Navy blockade Cuba. Tension took on a new meaning.

Finally, US President Kennedy and Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev reached an agreement. Soviet missiles would be withdrawn from Cuba if the US would withdraw their missiles from Turkey and never invade Cuba.

Fidel was not happy.

The planet survived to tell the tale.
