The Oldest Paper Documents

After the Chinese invention of paper in AD 105, the Sogdian Ancient Letters are considered one of the most important finds and have been attributed to the beginning of the 4th century. This makes them some of the oldest paper documents known to exist.

Sogdia or Sogdiana was an ancient Iranian civilization, located at today's southern Uzbekistan and Western Tajikistan.

Their language was Sogdian.

In 1907, the British archaeologist Sir Aurel Stein discovered the five Sogdian Ancient Letters in a Chinese watch tower.

Here you can actually read some very very old mail.
