Ferdinand became Emperor of Austria in 1835, succeeding his
father
Francis II.
Ferdinand abdicated in December
1848 and his nephew
Francis Joseph became
emperor.
Ferdinand suffered from epilepsy.

Francis II. His mother
was Maria Theresa of Naples and Sicily.
Ferdinand married Maria Anna of
Savoy, which made King Victor Emmanuel I of Sardinia his
father-in-law.
Ferdinand and Maria Anna had no
children.
