The Battle of Midway was a major naval battle during World War II between the United States and Japan.
It took place near Midway Atoll in the Pacific Ocean.
The United States, having broken Japanese codes, was able to anticipate and counter Japan's attack,
resulting in a decisive American victory.
Key Outcomes:
- The U.S. sank four Japanese aircraft carriers: Akagi, Kaga, Sōryū, and Hiryū.
- The U.S. lost one carrier: USS Yorktown, and one destroyer.
- Japan lost over 300 aircraft and many experienced pilots.
This battle marked a turning point in the Pacific War, ending Japanese expansion and beginning
a U.S. offensive that would last until the end of the war.
