The dates are uncertain.
Menes was a king of ancient
Egypt.
He might or might not
have been Narmer or
Aha. Either that, or he
was just a legend.
If he did exist, Menes
functioned as the first king who ruled over
a unified Egypt, combining Lower and Upper Egypt, and starting the
First Dynasty.
Menes chose Memphis to be his capital.
