Louis was
Napoleon Bonaparte's younger brother and
Napoleon III's father.
Napoleon
arranged for Louis to marry Josephine's daughter,
Hortense de
Beauharnais. That was in 1802.
In 1806, Napoleon decided his
brother Louis should become king of Holland. But the entire Dutch
population didn't play along the way Napoleon would have wished they
did, so he overran Holland in 1810
and that was that.
Louis, now unemployed, did exactly
what you would have done. He packed his bags, traveled through Europe, went to Italy,
and became a writer.
