Hamilcar Barca 285(?)-228(?) BC
Hamilcar Barca, or Barcas, was a
general in the Carthaginian army.
He fought the Romans in the
First
Punic War. Hamilcar lost the war and Rome took all of
Sicily.
Back home in Africa, Hamilcar had to fight the rebels. This time he was
successful.
Hamilcar went on to fight in Spain,
where later son
Hannibal joined
him.
Hamilcar died in action.
Hamilcar's successor was his
son-in-law Hasdrubal. Hasdrubal
was assassinated in 221 BC and Hamilcar's son Hannibal became his
successor.
