FIRST SINO-JAPANESE WAR
1894 - 1895

In the First Sino-Japanese War, China and Japan fought over power in Korea. The war started August 1, 1894. Japan won, China lost.

The Treaty of Shimonoseki was the concluding document of this war. Korea was declared independent and China had to give Taiwan to Japan.
