CRISTERO REBELLION
1926 -1929

The Cristero Rebellion is also called the Cristero War and took place in Mexico 1926 - 1929.

As a country, Mexico went through a lot especially during the first few decades of the 1900s (see Mexican Revolution).

In a nutshell, the power and influence of the Roman Catholic Church had been severely cut back. It reached a point were the peasants took up arms in defense of the Church.

Miguel Pro Juarez (Miguel Pro Juárez) was one of the Mexican Jesuit priests who was executed by presidential order. The president in question was Plutarco Elías Calles.
