Innocent III, 1160 - 1216
INNOCENT III
1160 - 1216

Innocent III was in reality Lothar of Segni, or Lotario di Segni in Italian. He was made pope in 1198 when Pope Celestine III died. Before becoming pope, Lothar studied in Paris and Bologna.

One of his co-students in Paris was Stephen Langton. Which is very interesting. Check John's page to see what trouble Stephen got himself involved in.

He was the pope who declared Magna Carta invalid, thus supporting English King John.
