Buddha, formerly known
as Siddhartha Gautama (or Gotama), lived round about or in-between
the 6th century B.C.
He was
born in India and became founder of Buddhism.
Buddhism
became a world religion but is mostly found in Asian countries.
Buddha means "awakened one" or
"enlightened one" in Sanskrit.
(What in the world is
Sanskrit?)
Therefore, to become a Buddhist means
to become an "enlightened one". In the teachings of Buddhism there
are more buddhas than the Buddha Gautama. Some Buddhists even think
that everyone has the potential to become a buddha.
